As part of the “Pink October” campaign, which this year was extended by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection through November due to the particular importance of this awareness-raising initiative, the Albanian Supreme Audit Institution (ALSAI), in cooperation with the Tirana Regional Directorate of the Health Care Services Operator, organized on 26 November 2025 the forum “Together for Breast Cancer Prevention – regular breasts screening saves lives”.

The event was held at the premises of the Albanian Supreme Audit Institution (ALSAI). It was attended by representatives of the Tirana Regional Directorate of the Health Care Services Operator the Institute of Public Health (OSHKSH), as well as healthcare professionals, including oncologists, gynecologists, and medical imaging specialists.

The welcoming remarks were held by the Secretary General of ALSAI, Mrs. Valbona Gaxha, who thanked the representatives of the healthcare institutions for their efforts in raising awareness and for their valuable contribution to this highly sensitive issue. Mrs. Gaxha emphasized that the topic is of particular importance to ALSAI, where 47% of the staff are women. She further noted that the preventive function—identifying and addressing shortcomings before they escalate—is at the very core of audit work, just as prevention is the central message of this awareness campaign.

The Director of Public Health and Health Education at the Tirana Regional Directorate of OSHKSH, Ms. Haxhire Kasaj, in her welcoming remarks, thanked the Chairman of ALSAI, Mr. Arben Shehu, for his support and willingness to facilitate the organization of the event. She emphasized that, from now on, every month throughout the year will be “pink”, with awareness-raising activities taking place in different cities across the country.

The healthcare professionals—Dr. Naun Sinani, Dr. Ariela Malaj, Dr. Ilir Qefalia, Ms. Edlira Klosi, Ms. Ardita Ibraj, and Ms. Entela Todhe—then shared advice and provided awareness-raising information on the early detection of breast cancer, the importance of regular medical check-ups, and methods of diagnosis and treatment. They stressed the importance of undergoing regular medical examinations, highlighting that timely diagnosis can help prevent the progression of the disease, increase life expectancy, and reduce the number of fatal cases.

As part of the event, a group of female employees of the Albanian Supreme Audit Institution underwent mammography screening.
