The 2025 Spring Session of the EUROSAI Working Group on Environmental Auditing (WGEA) was held in Warsaw, Poland from 6 to 8 May 2025.

The session focused on climate change adaptation and mitigation policies as a challenge for agriculture. Climate change poses significant threats to agricultural productivity, food security, and rural livelihoods, making both adaptation and mitigation essential for achieving sustainable agriculture. Effective strategies and policies are needed to help farmers adapt to changing weather patterns while reducing greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural activities. In recent years, not only global warming itself, but also the implementation of adaptation and mitigation measures, has become a major challenge for the agricultural sector.

Given that climate action is unavoidable, auditing these measures plays a vital role in assessing their effectiveness in enhancing resilience and supporting sustainable development. The meeting provided an important platform for representatives of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) to exchange views, audit strategies, findings, and new ideas and knowledge related to environmental auditing.

Participating SAIs also shared their experiences in conducting performance audits of complex public policies related to climate action and agriculture. Discussions focused on defining audit objectives and scopes, as well as approaches to auditing public policies concerning water quality and agricultural practices.

In addition, participants discussed the situation in their respective countries, the environmental audits conducted by their institutions, the challenges encountered during these audits, and their plans for future audits and assessments in this field. The exchange of experiences enabled participants to formulate recommendations and propose practical solutions for addressing emerging environmental challenges.

The session concluded with a field visit to the Royal Wilanów Garden, guided by the Environmental Officer of the Wilanów Palace Museum, during which participants discussed the practical challenges posed by climate change and the measures being implemented to address them.

The Supreme Audit Institution of Albania (ALSAI) participated in the session online, represented by Ms. Olisa Foto and Ms. Annavanessa Hoxhaj.
