The Albanian Supreme Audit Institution Participates in the Second Regional Meeting of the Joint Audit on “Empowering Women in Leadership and Decision-Making Positions”

The Albanian Supreme Audit Institution (ALSAI) participated in the second regional meeting of the joint audit on “Empowering Women in Leadership and Decision-Making Positions,” held on 2–3 April 2026 at the premises of the National Audit Office of the Republic of North Macedonia in Skopje.

This activity was organized with the support of UN Women for Europe and Central Asia, within the framework of initiatives aimed at strengthening democratic governance and advancing gender equality.

Participants in the meeting included representatives of Supreme Audit Institutions from Albania, North Macedonia, and Kosovo, as well as representatives of UN Women, creating an important platform for cooperation and exchange of experiences. The ALSAI delegation was represented by auditors from the Performance Audit Department, members of the audit team conducting this joint audit, who presented the main preliminary issues and challenges identified during the audit process.

During the two-day proceedings, participants discussed the preliminary results of the national audits, identified common issues, and defined the next steps for finalizing the individual reports and drafting the joint regional report.

Discussions focused on analyzing policies and institutional mechanisms aimed at promoting women’s representation in leadership and decision-making positions, as well as identifying opportunities for improvement.

This meeting contributes to strengthening inter-institutional cooperation among Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) in the region and to enhancing the quality of performance audits, with the aim of supporting policymaking and increasing public accountability in the field of gender equality. At the same time, it marks an important step toward the finalization of a joint report that will provide an integrated regional overview of women’s representation in decision-making.

The Albanian Supreme Audit Institution (ALSAI) remains committed to developing performance audits that address issues of high public importance and contribute to advancing equality, transparency, and good governance.
