On  July 18, 2025 it was held at the premises of “Tirana Times Library” the roundtable “High-Level Corruption in Albania’s Healthcare Sector” with the participation of representatives from the media and various associations operating in the healthcare sector.

During the meeting, Ms Eriselda Ndreca presented the key findings of the report entitled: “A Comprehensive Analysis of High-Level Corruption in Albania’s Healthcare Sector.”

The report, prepared by the association “Together for Life,” analyses corrupt practices identified through investigative media reporting, as well as those highlighted in the reports of independent institutions exercising oversight and supervisory functions, including audit reports issued by ALSAI. Among other issues, Ms Eriselda Ndreca highlighted the role of ALSAI in fighting corruption in the healthcare sector and beyond.

ALSAI was represented at the meeting by Mr Aulent Guri, Director of the Performance Audit Department. In his remarks, Mr Guri provided a brief overview of ALSAI’s main audit reports focusing on corruption in the healthcare sector, as well as on the quality of services that healthcare institutions are expected to provide to citizens. It is widely acknowledged that corruption in the healthcare sector is one of the main factors contributing to the inadequate quality of healthcare services. Accordingly, through both its compliance and performance audits, ALSAI has carried out a number of audits that have identified not only financial irregularities and abuses, but, more importantly, practices that have undermined the effectiveness of the healthcare services to which Albanian citizens are entitled.

The meeting continued with discussions, questions and suggestions from all participants concerning the current situation and the measures needed to achieve further improvements.

At the conclusion of the meeting, participants highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between public institutions—particularly ALSAI—and stakeholders, experts and associations operating in the healthcare sector.
