This project aims to increase the ALSAI contribution to strengthening government accountability in the use of public funds through professional and comprehensive audits of public procurement, concessions and public - private partnerships. It will be funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

Mr. Leskaj initially thanked Mr. Maître for the support SECO is providing to ALSAI and also for Switzerland's contribution to the development of Albania in general. The Albanian SAI - said Mr. Leskaj - will be a very serious partner and will work hard to fully meet the objectives of this project. We believe that the benefits for the ALSAI auditors will be multidimensional. We particularly value the fact that this project will be implemented with the contribution of Swiss taxpayers. The project comes at a perfect timing, since it ensures our SAI’s compliance with one of the most important objectives of the Development Strategy, that of strengthening the auditing capacity. This cooperation is crucial because it will be a support to further deepen the cooperation with the Swiss Supreme Audit Institution, especially in the field of Information Technology Audits, in which the SAI of Switzerland has achieved very good results.

Ambassador Maître thanked Mr. Leskaj and expressed his satisfaction that this project is being welcomed by the SAI. The project serves to strengthen the professional capacity of Albanian institutions, and in particular the Supreme Audit Institution, whose mission is difficult and not well understood by all, therefore the work of auditors, is always a challenge.

The Ambassador continued saying: - Mr. Leskaj said, among other things, that ALSAI will make every effort to make this project a success, because it is funded by Swiss taxpayers. I would add that I am twice as pleased because the project will help to ensure a better administration of Albanian taxpayer’s money as well."

The Ambassador praised the SAI's work and the fact that this two - year project will assist in the implementation of professional audits of public funds in the field of procurement, concessions and PPPs.

At the end of the meeting, the ALSAI Chairman donated to the Ambassador of Switzerland two volumes of the ALSAI publications in English, “ALSAI Activity Report for 2018” and “ALSAI Development Strategy 2018 - 2022; EUROSAI Strategic Plan 2017 - 2023; INTOSAI Strategic Plan 2017 - 2022 ”.

The cooperation between ALSAI and SECO will support the development of professional capacities of ALSAI auditors, but will also be the promoter of the support of the Swiss Confederation for the Republic of Albania.
